The new European and national standards promote a circular economy model for workwear and PPE, requiring sustainable management of their entire life cycle.
For this reason, companies are encouraged to adopt eco-design principles (durable, repairable, recyclable products, made of sustainable materials) and to favor reuse and recycling over disposal, integrating clear and verifiable processes for the management of the entire life cycle
Regulatory framework
From 1 January 2022
The separate collection of textile waste is mandatory (EU Directive 2018/851), the disposal of recyclable materialsin landfills is prohibited and authorized operators must be used.
By the first quarter of 2026
Entry into force of Directive (EU) 2025/1892 introducing Extended Producer Rsponsibility (EPR) for textile products. It binds producers to cover the costs and organization of separate collection, sorting and recycling, from design to end of life
Future prospect
The new rules, together with those in force, promote the circular economy, encourage a more sustainable management of the workwear and PPE life cycle, but at the same time create a climate of increasing responsibility and attention that requires companies to have higher accuracy in traceability.
